Ukrainian President Invites Russia to Peace Summit
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his intention to invite Russia to the upcoming peace summit, which is set to take place by the end of this year. This information was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
According to statements from representatives of the Ukrainian official leadership, Ukraine plans to organize the second summit by November 2024 and invites representatives from Russia to participate. However, the Kremlin is currently refusing to participate, considering it an unacceptable step.
Earlier, Russia declined to participate in the first session of the Global Peace Summit, which took place in Switzerland in June of this year. Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly stated his opposition to any agreements except for the capitulation of Ukraine, although other representatives of the Kremlin continue to express interest in peaceful negotiations.
The Global Peace Summit, initiated by Ukraine, is aimed at creating a general consensus on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, so that the Ukrainian side, along with international partners, can present a peaceful plan to the Russian representative at the future session.
ISW emphasizes that Ukraine has never ruled out the possibility of Russia’s participation in the peace process, emphasizing the need to involve all interested parties in the dialogue.
