During the postponement of security assistance approval by the US Congress, Slovenia rushed to help Ukraine without delay and reportedly secretly sent military aid.
Significant Military Support
It has been noted that Slovenia delivered 26 BOV amphibious armored vehicles, three M80A infantry fighting vehicles, Humvees, and a new batch of drones for the needs of the Armed Forces. Additionally, Ukraine also received rifles, ammunition, Zastava M55 anti-aircraft guns, ammunition, and helmets.
Considering its size, Slovenia provided significant military, humanitarian, and financial support to Ukraine.
Financial Assistance and Humanitarian Aid
It is worth noting that the country previously joined an initiative led by the Czech Republic to purchase 800,000 artillery rounds for Ukraine outside the European Union. As part of its contribution, the Slovenian government will allocate one million euros.
Slovenia will provide Ukraine with a grant of over 50 million hryvnias (1.5 million euros) to accelerate the process of demining contaminated areas. The Republic of Slovenia has handed over a third modern type C ambulance equipped with a newborn incubator and other necessary medical equipment for transporting and providing emergency medical care to newborns and premature babies for the needs of the Ukrainian healthcare system.
Diplomatic Action and Reconstruction Support
On March 21, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the Russian Embassy in Ljubljana that a Russian diplomat had been declared persona non grata in accordance with Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations due to activities incompatible with his diplomatic status. Slovenia is ready to allocate up to 5 million euros in grant funds for the reconstruction of infrastructure facilities in Ukraine. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Slovenia has joined the declaration of the «Big Seven» in support of security guarantees for Ukraine.
