SK Hynix to Open Plant in Indiana for HBM Memory Chips Production
South Korean company SK Hynix has confirmed its plans to build a plant in the state of Indiana for the production of HBM memory chips. According to CNBC, the company plans to invest $3.87 billion in this project, with the launch scheduled for the second half of 2028. The facility will include testing and packaging lines for HBM chips, as well as a research center for the development of advanced chip packaging methods.
Strengthening U.S. Supply Chains
Representatives of the company noted that this move will strengthen supply chains for the U.S. market, especially in the area of artificial intelligence system accelerators. As for the possibility of receiving federal subsidies under the U.S. CHIPS Act, experts believe that this issue requires further study, as funding in this direction is allocated very slowly, and there are other projects currently waiting for funding.
