Chinese Companies Accused of Transporting Food Oil with Fuel in Same Tankers
Two major Chinese companies — Sinograin and Hopefull Grain and Oil Group — have been caught up in a scandal over accusations of transporting food oil in the same tankers as fuel without proper cleaning procedures, as reported by CNN.
Last week, the Beijing News published an article revealing that tankers meant for transporting fuel and liquid chemicals were also used for carrying food products like cooking oil and soybean oil. Local experts warn of serious health risks associated with consuming oil contaminated with chemicals, which could cause irreversible damage to organs such as the liver and kidneys, as reported on CCTV.
These reports have sparked outrage in China, prompting government intervention. The Food Safety Administration has formed an interdepartmental group to investigate the situation, with plans to punish those responsible according to the law.
Sinograin and Hopefull Grain and Oil Group have initiated internal investigations and pledged to end partnerships with carriers that disregard safety regulations.
