Russian missile attacks cause losses in the Ukrainian energy sector

Recent Missile Attacks Result in 9.2 GW Loss in Ukraine’s Energy Capacity

Taking into account the recent missile attacks, Russia has destroyed 9.2 GW of Ukraine’s energy capacity. This was reported by the Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, on her Facebook page.

During her visit to Ukraine with Ukrainian politicians, they discussed the country’s important priorities for the coming months, including urgent needs for energy equipment to mitigate the consequences of continuous missile attacks by Russia on the energy infrastructure.

«Russia destroyed 9.2 GW of Ukrainian generation during an attack carried out two nights ago,» the post said.

The Situation in Ukraine’s Energy System

In the spring, Russian occupiers began shelling Ukrainian energy facilities again, destroying and significantly damaging distribution networks, thermal and hydroelectric power plants.

Yesterday, on June 1, the Russians again attacked Ukrainian energy facilities, damaging energy facilities in five regions. The occupiers shelled two thermal and two hydroelectric power plants, including the largest hydroelectric power plant in Ukraine — DniproHES in Zaporizhzhia.

Due to the extensive damage to Ukraine’s energy system, power outages are periodically being implemented.
