Bisons Spotted in the Budjak Steppe
Bisons, who inhabit the Budjak steppe in the Odessa region, have come out of hibernation. At least a dozen animals were spotted by representatives of the environmental organization Rewilding Ukraine.
«The bison look healthy and active, indicating that they hibernated well in the steppe,» said animal rights activists.
Earlier, Rewilding Ukraine reintroduced bison to the Odessa region. The organization’s representatives noted that in addition to the initial colony established by the bison, some animals have moved further away and started digging their own burrows. This indicates that the population is expanding in the wild.
This year, Rewilding Ukraine plans to release another group of bison into the fields of the Odessa region.
