Flag of the Russian Empire recognized as extremist symbol in Moldova

The court in Chisinau recently considered a request from the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Justice, and the Information and Security Service to recognize the black-yellow-white tricolor, the flag of the Russian Empire, as extremist symbolism.

Decision Made by the Court

On April 3, the court made a decision to recognize the «extremist nature of the flag with three horizontal black-yellow-white lines» in response to the government’s request. However, this decision can be appealed in the Appeals Chamber of Chisinau within 30 days.

The black-yellow-white flag served as the official flag of the Russian Empire from 1858 to 1896 and is currently used by Russian nationalist and monarchist organizations.
