Challenges Faced by Ukrainian Refugees

The difficulties range from strained relationships with host families to struggles in securing private accommodation. The report reveals that Ukrainians are at a four times higher risk of homelessness compared to the general population.

Examples of Refugees at Risk

— Some refugees were evicted by host families, leaving them without homes.
— A woman looking for housing online faced potential exploitation.
— A family participating in a placement program had to share one bed among three generations.

Red Cross Recommendations

The Red Cross urges the government to implement changes to ensure safety and stability for Ukrainian refugees. Specific measures include enhancing protection mechanisms, learning from successful Ukrainian programs, aiding in accessing rental housing, and creating an integration strategy for displaced persons.

Appeal for Support

Sel Coply, Executive Director of Communications and External Relations at the British Red Cross, emphasized the need to improve support for Ukrainians in the UK and draw lessons from Ukraine’s experiences to establish safe pathways for the future.
