Court decision on fines for tree felling

Rokytne Village Council fined 3 million hryvnias for illegal logging

Rokytne Village Council will pay a fine of 3 million hryvnias for illegal logging, setting a precedent in law enforcement, according to the State Environmental Inspection of the Polissya District.

The violators responsible for the illegal logging were not identified, leading to the village council being held accountable for the damage amounting to 2 million 911 thousand hryvnias.

Despite initially ignoring the compensation claim, the inspection pursued legal action, resulting in a successful lawsuit filed to the Economic Court of Rivne Region. The appellate court ultimately decided to satisfy the claims, marking the first case in Ukraine of applying the relevant law in similar scenarios.
