Political analyst Alexander Kochetkov on the Peace Summit in Switzerland
Political analyst Alexander Kochetkov shared his thoughts on the results of the Peace Summit in Switzerland. According to him, this event was important as it took place, despite Russia and China trying to obstruct it. The joint communique once again emphasized the importance of recognizing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as other UN principles. Kochetkov noted that the communique even includes a reference to «Zelensky’s peace plan», which is based on a UN resolution.
Loss of global support and future negotiations
According to the analyst, among the negative aspects, it is worth noting the loss of global support, especially from countries of the Global South. He pointed out that more than 80 countries supported the joint communique, but two participants withdrew their signatures. Kochetkov emphasized that Ukraine should more actively promote its position on the war for independence, which negatively affects its perception in the world as a leader in anti-colonial struggle.
The analyst also discussed the future negotiations involving the aggressor, which were announced in the joint communique. He expressed doubts about Russia’s adequacy in these negotiations but noted encouraging signs in terms of their potential success.
«Thanks to the results of the Summit, we can expect complex negotiations that will determine the future course in resolving the conflict,» — concluded Kochetkov.
