Ukraine to join EU through new negotiation model

Negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union will take place using a new model that involves a cluster approach, said Deputy Head of the Office of the President Igor Zhovkva during the telethon «Unified News.» This approach allows for the simultaneous opening of negotiations on several chapters, forming so-called clusters.

«The Association Agreement contains 35 chapters, and a delegation is created for each one. Instead of sequentially opening chapters according to the standard scheme, we will apply a cluster approach,» explained Zhovkva.

He also noted that the EU Council’s decision on the negotiation framework, adopted on June 21, is the final bureaucratic step that opens the way for actual negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

«The next stage is the intergovernmental conference on June 25, where we will start negotiations with the EU,» he added, emphasizing that both sides are already preparing their delegations for this historic stage.
