Prehistoric Giants of Australia
If you think that the modern fauna of Australia is already amazing, try to imagine what once inhabited this continent. Among them were the Dromornithidae, known as mihirungs or thunder birds, among which was presumably the largest bird that ever existed — Dromornis stirtoni. When the first humans arrived on the continent, the dromornithids and many other mihirungs were no longer there, but at least one representative of the family remained. Over the last 128 years, scientists have been able to gather a complete understanding of its appearance and way of life.
