France Excludes Russia from D-Day Anniversary Events
According to information received from the Elysée Palace and conveyed by Ukrinform, Russia will not be invited to the ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the Allied troops landing in Normandy on June 6, 2024 due to its «aggressive war» against Ukraine.
A representative of the French side stated that the Russian delegation will be absent from the event due to conflicting circumstances related to the active prosecution of the war against Ukraine, especially in recent weeks.
The ceremonies in Normandy will bring together dozens of heads of state and governments, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Joe Biden. A representative of the French president confirmed Russia’s absence at these events and emphasized that Zelensky’s presence is justified by Ukraine’s «just struggle» in the war against Russia.
