Usyk’s Status as Champion in Question
In the next two weeks, Usyk may lose his status as the undisputed champion. The Ukrainian may be stripped of the IBF title due to the impossibility of holding a mandatory defense against a contender.
IBF Exception Possibility
However, today, the president of the IBF stated that any active champion can apply for an exception to any IBF rule, and if Usyk’s team submits a request, it will be considered by the IBF, and special conditions may be applied for Oleksandr.
The Ukrainian champion’s promoter, Alexander Krassyuk, announced that Usyk’s team plans to take advantage of this opportunity.
«Of course, we will apply to the IBF for an exception to the rules,» Krassyuk said.
The World Boxing News portal notes that if the IBF approves the Ukrainian team’s request, the Hrgovic — Dubois fight will not be for the title, and Oleksandr Usyk will be obliged to defend his IBF title against the winner of this match after the rematch with Fury in October.
