Ukraine Imposes Annual Ban on Fishing During Spawning Season

Beginning April 1, 2024, Ukraine has implemented a ban on fishing during the spawning season to protect fish populations. According to reports from «Dnipro Operative,» the ban will be in effect across various water bodies, with specific timings and conditions varying by region.

Restrictions During the Spawning Season

— From April 1 to June 30: Fishing is prohibited in reservoirs, lakes with bays, straits, and flood areas.

— In rivers: From April 1 to May 20, fishing is banned; from April 1 to June 30, fishing is not allowed in tributaries of rivers (old river beds, floodplains).

During the spawning season, anglers must fish from shore outside of designated spawning zones, using hook and line gear or spinning with a single lure. The maximum number of hooks allowed per fishing session is two. Movement on water bodies, excluding boats, is only permitted for authorized fish protection and state services. Commercial fishing and underwater hunting are strictly prohibited during this time.
