Jack Teixeira, a National Guard soldier from Massachusetts, has pleaded guilty to leaking confidential military documents and sharing them on the internet through Discord. Among these documents were classified NATO and US plans to strengthen the Ukrainian army ahead of a counteroffensive. On Thursday, February 29, ABC News reported that Teixeira had reached a deal with federal prosecutors to admit his guilt.
«Jack Teixeira, a young military computer technician accused of leaking highly classified government intelligence data, will plead guilty before a federal judge in Boston on Monday,» the statement said.
Federal prosecutors filed a petition on Thursday informing the judge that Teixeira intended to change his previous plea of not guilty.
«Teixeira admits his guilt, and the judge will determine whether this admission is truly voluntary,» explain journalists.
It is not yet known what specific charges Teixeira is pleading guilty to. The plea deal will not be disclosed.
It is worth noting that in the spring, the American publication New York Times reported that «classified» documents detailing US and NATO plans to bolster the Armed Forces of Ukraine ahead of a planned counteroffensive had appeared on Twitter and Telegram. According to the publication, the Pentagon is investigating who may have been behind the «leak» of the documents.
At that time, the Office of the President of Ukraine indicated that Russia was behind this «leak,» and the true plans of the Ukrainian Armed Forces «the enemy will soon see on the battlefield.»
