Hamas Says Ceasefire Talks Ongoing in Gaza, Military Leader ‘Feeling Well’ After Israeli Strike
Hamas announced on Sunday that ceasefire talks in Gaza are ongoing, and their military leader is «feeling well» after a massive airstrike carried out by the Israeli military. This information was reported by Ukrinform, citing AP.
«Hamas declared on Sunday about the continuation of ceasefire talks in Gaza, as well as that their military leader is feeling well after the assassination attempt, which according to local medical sources, resulted in the death of at least 90 people,» the statement reads.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, on July 13, they struck a refugee camp in the city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, where, according to them, Hamas commanders were hiding, including Mohammed Deif.
Lieutenant General Herzl Halevi, chief of the Israeli army, told journalists that Israel attacked the compound where Deif was «hiding,» and added that «it is still too early to draw conclusions about the results of the attack, which Hamas is trying to cover up.»
Palestinian sources claim that at least 90 people, including children, were killed in the strike.
Hamas representatives have not provided any evidence to confirm their claims about Deif’s health. His liquidation would be the most significant killing of any Hamas leader since the start of hostilities in October.
As Ukrinform reported, on October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, resulting in the deaths of around 1200 people and the capture of around 250 hostages, hundreds of whom are still in captivity. In response, Israel began a military operation against the militants, leading to the evacuation of about 80% of Gaza’s population, with hundreds of thousands remaining on the brink of starvation.
