Hamas Stands Firm on Ceasefire Negotiations
Hamas is not backing down from negotiations with Israel on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to one of the group’s senior officials in an interview with Reuters.
Hamas political office member Izzat El-Reshiq accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of trying to hinder the efforts of Arab mediators and the United States to reach a ceasefire agreement. El-Reshiq stated, «The escalation of attacks by the Israeli government aims to disrupt negotiations to end the conflict.»
In response to new Israeli strikes on Gaza, including a displaced persons camp in the southern part of the enclave, Hamas issued a statement. According to CNN, at least 90 Palestinians were killed in this attack. Israel claims the strike targeted a Hamas military commander involved in planning the October 7, 2023 attack.
Earlier, Reuters reported that ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip were suspended until Israel demonstrates a serious commitment to the process, as per Egyptian sources. Sources indicated «internal discord» among Israeli mediators.
